For children that already speak and understand Dutch, we can highly recommend Dutch School ‘De Kangoeroe’.
The school provides Education in Dutch Language & Culture for Dutch and Flemish speaking children between the age of 4 to 12 years old. Children can join the Dutch School at any time throughout the year. The locations for lessons are: Hunters Hill, St Ives, Surry Hills, Forestville and Cammeray. Children attend the class once a week at one of these locations from 4-6pm. Just like a ‘real’ school, the school has a (mobile) library, test days, progress reports and events like Sinterklaas and Kingsday.
Dutch in Sydney and De Kangoeroe have a good relationship; several teachers from Dutch in Sydney have worked at the Dutch School or are still working there now.
Parents can come to Dutch in Sydney if they prefer 1:1 classes, this could for example be when children don’t have a sufficient level of Dutch (yet) to be able to attend the school, or the private lessons can complement the classes at the school for children that need extra guidance. Dutch in Sydney can not garentee that a child is able to join the school after attending private lessons.
In the video below you can see Jori, one of the founders of Dutch in Sydney, teaching her class at the Dutch School.
